How to rent a car — 4 steps

No prepayment, no paperwork hassle. From picking a car to keys in hand — usually under a day.

  1. 1

    Choose a car

Browse the catalogue and pick a car for your trip — city, mountains or sea. Filters by class, gearbox and drive help you decide.

  2. 2

    Send a request

Fill in the short form or message us in chat. Booking is free and non-binding — we take no prepayment.

  3. 3

    Confirmation

A manager gets in touch to confirm the dates, pick-up place and delivery, and answers any questions about the car and terms.

  4. 4

    Get the keys

We deliver the car to the airport, your hotel or any address. A quick inspection, the contract, payment on pick-up — and you're on the road.

Documents & requirements

Minimal paperwork. We handle everything on the spot in a few minutes.

Age & experience

The driver must be 21 or older with at least 2 years of driving experience.

Passport

A passport or national ID.

Driving licence

A national licence in Latin script. If your licence uses another alphabet, you'll need an International Driving Permit (IDP).

Deposit

Depends on the car class. Some cars require no deposit — ask the manager.

Payment

On pick-up, by cash or card. We accept US dollars and Georgian lari.

Traffic rules

Georgia drives on the right, overtaking on the left. The patrol police enforce the rules and there are many cameras. The essentials:

Speed limits

20
residential
60
town
90
open road
110
motorway

These are the default limits where there's no sign. Signs and markings take priority — higher on some embankments and near airports, lower in towns and near schools.

Alcohol — near zero

The limit is 0.3‰, and for drivers with under 2 years' experience it's a strict 0.0. Best not to drink at all before driving: a breach means a heavy fine and loss of licence.

Seat belts

Belting up is mandatory. Buckle rear passengers too — it's safer and keeps the officer happy.

No phone in hand

You may only talk while driving via speaker or a headset.

Headlights

Dipped beams are required at night and in bad weather. Always on in tunnels.

Children

Small children travel in a car seat. Young children may not sit in the front without a proper restraint.

Emergency number — 112

One number for police, ambulance and rescue. Works nationwide, the call is free.

Fines & what to do after a crash

Many offences are caught automatically by cameras. Amounts are approximate — the Georgian patrol police set the current figures.

OffenceFine
Speedingfrom ₾50
No seat belt₾40
Driving without dipped beams₾15
Drink driving₾700 + licence suspension

Camera fines go to the car's owner and are then passed on to the renter — you'll still have to pay them.

If you have an accident

  1. 1Stop, switch on the hazard lights and don't move the car until the police arrive.
  2. 2Call 112 and wait for the patrol police — reporting the accident is mandatory.
  3. 3Tell us and the insurer straight away. All cars are insured (CASCO); an excess applies in the event of a claim — see the contract.
  4. 4Photograph the scene, the damage and the other driver's documents.

Fuel, parking & roads

Petrol stations

Stations are everywhere, fewer in the mountains, so fill up in advance. Fuel: 95, 98, diesel and gas. Pay by card or cash.

No toll roads

Georgia's entire road network is free — there are no toll motorways or paid barriers.

Parking

Central Tbilisi and Batumi have paid zones; outside the centre you can usually park free. Don't park under a no-parking sign — cars get towed.

Mountain roads

Main roads are in good shape, but the mountains bring narrow switchbacks, gravel stretches and animals on the road. In winter the passes (Gudauri, Kazbegi) need winter tyres or chains — take an SUV for the mountains.

Crossing the border

You can take a rental car into neighbouring countries, but only with our prior approval.

  • You'll need a notarised power of attorney from the car's owner and separate international insurance (Green Card). Arranging it takes time — let us know well ahead.
  • Armenia is a popular route and is arranged in advance.
  • Azerbaijan — land borders may be closed to incoming tourists; check the current status before planning.

Taking our car out of Georgia without approval is prohibited by the contract.

This information is for general guidance. Rules, limits and fine amounts may change — check the current details with the Georgian patrol police (112) and in your Corent rental contract.
